Kayak surf: How I discovered a life away from the camera.
Priority change In 2013 I discovered something that has changed my life: Surf kayaking. It might be the midlife crisis, an excuse to get out of the house or just getting bored with being behind the camera. Whatever it was: After three decades of shooting other people doing cool things, it was time for my own adventures. I had bought an inflatable kayak, hoping it would help rescue my deflated relationship. But paddling canals and...
RX10IV first photos
Image gallery of the very first shots I took with the RX10IV. No raw conversion so these are mostly straight out of the camera with the occasional crop ad little tweak. Also included are 100% crops to show the noise pattern and bokeh.
RX10 IV: Set phase detection on stun
Sony RX: The 1inch sensor to rule them all Years ago I bought the original RX100, replacing the Lumix LX3, a very nice little camera but it had terrible video. Back then the RX100 was still the great undiscovered ‘take anywhere’ camera. Perfect for hiking up a mountain as you can see from this picture on the left. Not the prettiest colours in the world, but excellent dynamic range, which is why it makes for a great BW...
RX10 IV: Lord of the Zoom
Shooting a little surf video impression with the RX10 IV. So this is the 4K on factory default, no tweaking and both AF and white balance on full auto. This is shot in pretty windy conditions without a tripod and despite some jittering even at 600mm (220mm real lens size) 35mm equivalent. All things considering: the image is pretty good and I would say usable for jobs. It does remind me a bit of the EX3: it is a bit video but has a...
Colourful animals
There is something about walking in nature and looking and the wild animals. Taking pictures with the Sony A7RII and the Canon 100-400 with the metabones adapter works well for nature as long as it’s slow moving and I have time to focus manually. It is not too heavy when you use a monopod and it gets you close enough to shoot some nice photographs.
